Somewhat hard to believe...
I never had a letter "lost in the mail" when mailed within the USA.
Letters mailed to Lithuania get lost all the time.
How is that possible?

vitg,

That's interesting, I never had any problem with the Lithuanian Post. But with the US Post, I've experienced 3 lost mails so far, 2 of them were registered mails. The speed is also slow, Tokyo to New York City once took over 40 days... air mail of course. But that's better than UK Post.

I am glad to learn that Lithuanian Post mail service to Japan is reliable and efficient. I have personally never had any problems with Lithuanian Post. Never lost any mail to or from Lithuania. However, I often read complains posted online by other customers who are frustrated by poor service and who loudly complain about various problems especially when shipping and receiving parcels. Slow mail service is not their major problem.

I guess like any other large, state-run organization, Lithuanian Post has its strong and weak moments.

You may be right...
Come to think about it my lost mail to Lithuania dates back to 1990s and early 2000s.
But I do hear a lot of stories from other collectors as well.
